Dr. Hayley McDonald (BVSc dist., DECVIM-CA Cardiology, PhD, MRCVS) is a board-certified veterinary cardiologist, key opinion leader, and speaker. Trained across four countries, Dr. Hayley holds a PhD in advanced cardiac imaging and worked on the heart surgery team at one of the few centers in the world performing open-heart mitral valve repair. As The Rhythm Vet, Dr. Hayley makes cardiology accessible to the vets and techs who meet cardiac cases first.

Dr. Hayley McDonald (BVSc dist., DECVIM-CA Cardiology, PhD, MRCVS) is a board-certified veterinary cardiologist, key opinion leader, and speaker, practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Hayley qualified at Massey University in New Zealand and practiced in Australia before completing a PhD at the University of Queensland, using high-field cardiac MRI to test new therapies for the injured heart. Dr. Hayley then moved to the United Kingdom for a cardiology residency at the University of Glasgow, passed the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine boards in 2019, and lectured in cardiorespiratory medicine before joining the heart surgery team at one of the few centers in the world performing open-heart mitral valve repair. In 2022 Dr. Hayley moved to California and founded HeartHealth Veterinary Cardiology. As The Rhythm Vet, Dr. Hayley teaches real ECGs and real cases to an international audience of vets and techs, making cardiology accessible to the people who meet cardiac cases first.

Peer-reviewed work.
Dr. Hayley's doctoral research at the University of Queensland used high-field cardiac MRI to test whether a growth hormone secretagogue could protect the heart after a heart attack. Although the work is in human cardiology, it is a large part of why Dr. Hayley reads an echo and an ECG the way she does.
